A photo of Dorothy Counts, being jeered and taunted by her white, male peers. She was the first black girl to attend an all white school in the United States.
After four days of harassment that threatened her safety, her parents forced her to withdraw from the school.
Only 53 years ago and 20 min from where I grew up…

random acts of kindness - the blog: I have just returned- -
-from yet another magical experience in Yosemite National Park: it is the place to which I make my pilgrimage every year. And as usual, I come back rejuvinated, inspired, brimming with the want to DO.
This trip in particular was impacting, surrounded by people that I love, seeing and walking and…
Feeling this way too. Let’s get started!
After all the talk about God, all the wars fought for belief, all the time I spent at religious boarding schools, all the times I’ve seen arguments over faith, and after all the blood that has been spilt in the name of religion, I have found a new faith in my life, and it only took 40 years to find it.
My religion is called Love.

must do.
What it’s like to live and work in a tourist destination: just spent 4th of july serving the free people (a constant line out the door all day) who are visiting lake tahoe and are probably throwing their starbucks cups out on the beach after the fireworks on the lake that created bumper to bumper traffic with people honking and hollering while most likely driving drunk to get back to their vacation rentals where they left out delicious trash for the bears to rummage.
BUT it’s only a couple weekends a year and the rest of the time I get to LIVE where they vacation! Just sayin.
And then I found this.
Sadden by the pictures I looked at today of the oil spill. But I’m also sadden that everyone wants to blame someone else.
I’ll admit I’m responsible for the oil spill…I’ve used plastic bags, put gas in my car, used electricity, bought bottled water.
I promise to use a reusable bag instead, ride my bike more, conserve more energy and use less plastic. I’m gonna find a way to help.
I will be part of the solution and clean up.
